Shall Euthanasia be legal in Taiwan?

In the modern world, everyone lives in a hurry and pressurized life style, heavy pressures cause people to suffer not only physically but also psychologically . Euthanasia seems to be a means to release those in need from their torturous miseries of terminal illnesses. Nevertheless, there are many arguments about the application of Euthanasia, especially in some developed countries like Canada and Switzerland. The people who are ill and became a burden to their family members sometimes would be pushed to accept Euthanasia. It is not the intention for the administering of Euthanasia. It forces those people who do not want to die earlier to choose the ending of their lives against their will.

However, Taiwan, as a democratic, empathic and progressive country which was the first to vote for the legalization in same-sex marriage in Asia, we are still very conservative on the matter of Euthanasia. Euthanasia is a complicated issue, because of the religious beliefs associated with the meaning of life versus the need for humanitarian relieves of those in great physical or  psychological  miseries. ; take the cases of patients who must be attached to a life support system as an example. Some religions define  Euthanasia as an equivalent to committing suicide which are against their religious principles. Surly, those people who cannot endure farewells with  patients will definitely reject this option, after all, it is so hard to let go those who we love so dearly even though they understood it is meaningless to keep the patients  alive under such circumstances.

To me, Euthanasia represents the freedom of human rights to the fullest, the compassion for those who live worse than dying but surly, it needs well-and-sound regulations as well as delicate supervisions from our government officials to prevent tragedies from abusing Euthanasia. Definitely, life is precious, a gift from the heavens, we shall cherish it; but, if life becomes an endless daily torture, letting your loved one go probably would be a better option. Thus, if the policy for Euthanasia can be carefully designed by our government before it becomes effective, I believe Euthanasia shall be legalized in Taiwan.
