Dr. Chao-Bin Hsu devoted his life to providing medical care for rural communities in southern Taiwan. As the founder of the South-Link Medical Foundation, he dedicated himself to improving healthcare access in remote areas, ensuring that even the most underserved patients received compassionate care.He was more than a doctor — he was a visionary who transformed compassion into lasting impact.

【The Connection Between Hsinchu Love Action and the South-Link Medical Foundation】
自 2022 年起，新竹愛心小隊（Hsinchu Love Action） 與南迴基金會攜手合作，推動 「FUFU豬愛心認領計畫」，以可愛的存錢豬象徵持續的關懷與奉獻。每一隻 FUFU 豬都承載著學生與家庭的善意，化作對南迴醫療建設與照護行動的實際支持。這份合作不僅是一場捐款活動，更是一個教育的契機——讓年輕人明白，「小小的愛心，也能改變世界的一角」。
Since 2022, Hsinchu Love Action has partnered with the South-Link Medical Foundation through the “FUFU Pig Adoption Program.”These small piggy banks represent big hearts — each filled with love and contributions that help fund medical development and community support in southern Taiwan.For our students, this collaboration became more than just fundraising; it was a lesson in empathy, awareness, and the power of collective kindness.

在 2024 與 2025 年的暑假，新竹愛心小隊的學生們親自前往台東南迴診所進行實習。在那裡，他們與醫護人員一同參與偏鄉醫療照護工作，學習病患接待、基本檢測與關懷服務，更親身感受到徐醫師長年推動「醫療平權」的精神與信念。
During the summers of 2024 and 2025, our students traveled to the South-Link Clinic in Taitung for medical service internships.They joined the frontline healthcare team, assisting with patient care, basic checkups, and community service.Through these hands-on experiences, they came to understand Dr. Hsu’s mission — that healthcare should never be a privilege, but a right accessible to all.

徐醫師的離世，讓人無限不捨，但他所點燃的愛心火苗，已在無數人的心中延續。新竹愛心小隊深深敬佩並感謝徐醫師多年來對偏鄉醫療的奉獻，我們將秉持他的精神，繼續推動公益服務、醫療關懷與教育行動，讓更多年輕世代透過實際參與，體驗「付出即是最大的幸福」。
Though Dr. Hsu is no longer with us, the spirit of love he inspired continues to shine brightly.Hsinchu Love Action honors his lifelong dedication and vows to carry forward his mission —through acts of service, compassion, and education that empower young people to discover the joy of giving.

【In Memory of Dr. Chao-Bin Hsu — Reflection by Casper Hsu】
無私的奉獻是件很難的事。徐超斌醫師將自己的一生奉獻給偏鄉醫療，他不畏艱難、默默付出，為需要的人帶來希望與溫暖。得知他辭世的消息，令人感到無比哀痛與不捨。他的一生讓我明白，真正的影響力不在名利，而是在於對他人的關懷與責任感。
第一次參與南迴醫療時，我看到徐醫師走路雖不方便，卻仍奮不顧身地前往不同病患家中進行居家醫療。他的身影深深刻在我心中，也讓我體會到「醫者仁心」的真正意義。每當想到他的堅持與付出，我心中充滿敬意，也激勵我在成為醫師的道路上，學習他的精神，願意為病患、為社會無私奉獻，將醫療的溫暖帶給更多需要的人。
正如徐醫師的人生處方簽所寫：「愛，不是我們要出發的方向，而是我們出發的起點。」這句話不僅是他一生的信念，也成為我未來行醫路上的指引與力量。
Selfless dedication is never easy.Dr. Chao-Bin Hsu devoted his entire life to providing medical care in remote regions of Taiwan. Despite hardships, he worked quietly and tirelessly, bringing hope and warmth to those in need.The news of his passing filled me with deep sorrow and loss. His life taught me that true influence is not measured by fame or wealth, but by compassion and responsibility toward others.
When I first joined the South-Link Medical Care Program, I saw Dr. Hsu walking with difficulty, yet still determined to visit patients in their homes to provide care. His figure remains vividly in my memory—it was then that I truly understood the meaning of “a healer’s benevolent heart.”Each time I think of his perseverance and dedication, I feel immense respect. His spirit continues to inspire me on my journey to become a doctor — to serve patients and society with selfless devotion, and to deliver the warmth of medicine to those who need it most.
As written in Dr. Hsu’s “Prescription for Life”:
“Love is not the direction we are heading toward, but the starting point from which we begin.”
This belief was not only his lifelong conviction, but also the guiding light that will continue to shape my own path in medicine.

【學生Jennifer Hsu對徐超斌醫生的悼念文】
【In Memory of Dr. Chao-Bin Hsu — Reflection by Jennifer Hsu】
The lifelong contributions that have influenced the entire region of Taitung are an inspiration for many younger generations. Dr. Hsu's motivation to become a doctor comes from a tragic story in his childhood. When he was seven, he witnessed the death of his sister because they lived in a rural village of Taitung, and help could not arrive in time. It truly astonished me when I witnessed Dr. Hsu’s significant contribution and impact in areas with underdeveloped healthcare centers. Despite the alluring opportunities and high salary, working in a central hospital, Dr. Hsu remains determined in his goal and has established the South-Link Health Promotion Association (南迴協會) since 2010, and continues to do so today.
What astonished me the most was the unwavering commitment Dr. Hsu demonstrated throughout his career, and the gradually positive impact that can still be seen even after his passing. However, his contribution did not end there; he works an average of sixteen hours per day and sees over four hundred patients per month, many of whom rely on him as their only accessible physician in their region. For these families, Dr. Hsu was not just a doctor, but someone who illuminates their hope during despair.
The southern part of Taitung was typically less funded and less accessible by the government, which makes this region less developed compared to cities like Hsinchu or Taipei. As a result, the younger generation tends to move to larger and more developed cities, leaving those elderly behind with either a caregiver or no one. With an aging population and limited medical resources, many patients in this region were unable to receive proper treatment when they needed it. Through this, it reflects Dr. Hsu’s dedication and the vision he pursued.
The influence of Dr. Hsu’s dedication can be seen across the Taitung and the South-Linked region. Clinics that once struggled to provide proper treatment and medication for the patients can now run smoothly. Additionally, Dr. Hsu’s inspirational story inspired more young doctors to serve in rural communities. Although his passing was deeply painful for all of us, his legacy continues to support the region and the people he had devoted himself to throughout his lifetime.
To me, his dedication is especially inspirational and thought-provoking, as his story challenges people today, particularly the younger generation, to reconsider the importance of community and compassion in an era where comfort and convenience are more accessible than in the past. Although Dr. Hsu is no longer with us, his spirit and legacy will endure.
